Scripture for the day
"Whatever your task, work heartily, as serving the Lord and not men."
COLOSSIANS 3:23 (RSV)

Reflections: An annual visit with an out of town medical specialist provided more than just medical care, Though it occurred years ago, it remains fresh in my memory. The physical knows little about me as I see him once a year. At one visit I was impressed with the friendliness and efficiency of his staff. They were always on time, ready for each patient, and were genuinely helpful. The physician was kind and explained things in language even I can understand.

After the visit I shared with the physician and nurse how much I appreciated the way they treat their patients. He seemed taken aback by my comments and said he would share my compliments with the entire staff. As he left the room, he parted with this comment: “We simply try to treat our patients as if we were serving the Lord.”

What a testimony! His statement had validity because of the care and concern expressed by this group, I believe he really does seek to provide his medical care as if he were rendering care to Jesus.

What if each of us went out today as if we were serving the Lord? What if we responded to our employers, employees, fellow workers, housekeepers, the business owners, our teachers, our students, our neighbors, the strangers we meet, the street person, the aged, the children, whomever as if we were sharing our time and energy with Jesus?

The humble statement of the physician is still ringing in my ears. I will have plenty of interactions with people today. Will I treat them as if I were serving the Lord?

Prayer: Oh Lord , may I offer service, respect, and love to you as I meet those you place in my path today. Amen.
